SAARC nations' talks on road-map to battle coronavirus
Leaders of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) have joined a video-conference to chalk out a joint strategy to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
The special conference started at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Ganabhaban around 5:30pm. Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and other joined the conference.
Earlier on Friday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted and urged the leaders of south Asian countries to to chalk out a strong strategy to combat coronavirus outbreak.
In a series of tweets, Modi said,"our planet is battling the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. At various levels, governments and people are trying their best to combat it. South Asia, which is home to a significant number of the global population should leave no stone unturned to ensure our people are healthy."
The others in talks include Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Bhutan Prime Minister Lotay Tshering, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani. Zafar Mirza, special assistant on health to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, is representing their country.
