Crore Taka and huge gold seized from AL leader’s residence
The Rapid Action Battalion has seized a huge cache of gold and cash from the residences of Awami League leaders Enamul Haque and Rupon Bhuiyan at Gandaria in Dhaka.
A RAB unit started the operations early Tuesday on allegations of their involvements in running a casino, RAB spokesman Mizanur Rahman told bdnews24.com.
Enamul had already left the country while Rupon had been absconding, said Lieutenant Colonel Shafiullah Bulbul, commanding officer of RAB-3, at a press briefing in front of the house.
Later, the RAB men raided the house of Enamul's accomplice Abul Kalam alias Kala in Narinda and seized Tk2 crore from there.
However, Kala was not at the house during the drive.
Meanwhile, the law enforcers surrounded the residence of Wari AL's Vice President Rashid, elder brother of Enamul, in the same area as of filing of this report at around 3:20 pm.
The elite force came to know that a good amount of money was siphoned off from the club.
Later, from a vault maker they got the information that Enamul had made several vaults.
Based on the information, the RAB conducted the drive in Enamul's six-storey house, where they recovered the money and the gold from three vaults.
Using muscle power, Enamul got hold of 15 houses in old Dhaka.
He had been a member of the club since 1985.
Later, he gradually bought shares and became one of its owners.
